Instructions for authors / Normas para publicação

We seek to spread botanical knowledge in several formats, such as:

• Letters;
• Artistic works;
• Book reviews;
• Monographs;
• Descriptive papers;
• Botany education and science learning reports;
• Botanical art and illustrations;
• Species lists, catalogues and checklists for reserves and parks, urban forestry, as well as brief field expeditions reports, and herbarium techniques.

We are also interested in a wide intersection between land art, ex-situ conservation, botanic gardens, gardening, horticulture, garden history, plant ecology, ecosystem restoration, practices involving plants in basic education, plant perception, agroecology, and urban forestry.

Portuguese and Spanish are preliminary accepted but English is preferred. Any native Brazilian languages is accepted, provided that we find appropriate reviewers.

A single abstract, in English, is mandatory, but there’s no keywords number limit.

Any figures should be included within the text file, in a small size.

Keep things as simple as possible (if you wish) and avoid heavy figures. There is no mandatory sequence of text sections. You are responsible for the good reading and understanding of your manuscript (although our team will try to help you).

We do care for good SCIENCE. By submitting your manuscript you warrant to PlantNow that no part of the manuscript is copied from any other work; that you have obtained ALL the permissions required (for print and electronic use) for any material you have used from other copyrighted publications; and you have exercised the best care to ensure that the manuscript/article is accurate and does not contain anything which infringes on anyone’s copyright, right of privacy, or other rights.

Please be aware that you are responsible for all funding agency compliance and the accuracy of information you provide in relation to your article.

Submission rate: To facilitate payment for corresponding authors from Brazil, we will use the following prices in REAIS: R$299 or US$99 for Non-Brazilian corresponding author, regardless the dollar exchange rate fluctuation.

Pay first (and cry later)! You manuscript will only go through the review process after payment of the submission rate. If the manuscript is rejected there will be no refund. Do your best before submitting.

New species descriptions will only be accepted after the journal has been included in taxonomical indexes and received the ISSN. But we encourage you to send type specimens to UFRN herbarium.

Authors may reuse their article anywhere at any time including social media such as Facebook, blogs and Twitter citing the original. A link back to the issue on the PlantNow site is welcome.

Frequency: Three Issues are published annually in April, August and December.

IF YOUR MANUSCRIPT HAS CO-AUTHORS, MAKE SURE TO COPY THEM IN THE INITIAL SUBMISSION EMAIL. ALL THE AUTHORS AND THEIR AFFILIATIONS MUST BE COMPLETE, INCLUDING EMAILS OF ALL OF THEM. They must be aware and agree with the submitted manuscript.
